The 148th Open comes to Northern Ireland 14th - 21st July
It is truly an epic year for Northern Ireland tourism as The Open at Royal Portrush will be beamed live to over 600 million households across the world in just over a months time. It is set to attract more than 215,000 eager spectators, with a team of 6,000 staff and 350 volunteers warmly welcoming visitors. Unprecedented demand from fans wanting to attend The Open has led to record-breaking ticket sales and the Championship will be a sell-out on Championship Days for the first time.
Belfast is getting ready to welcome the visitors to the Open who will be staying in the city over this period and the many others who will be making a trip to the capital city part of their visit.
What is happening in Belfast city centre ?
Belfast is getting into the swing of things to celebrate The 148th Open coming to Northern Ireland. If you can’t make it to Portrush why not come to Belfast as we ‘tee off’ at City Hall grounds on Sunday 14 July, through to Sunday 21 July from 11am - 6pm.
All ages can try their hand at our themed 9 hole mini golf course featuring some of Northern Ireland’s most famous landmarks. Putt your way through the Albert Clock, H&W cranes and Titanic.
Or swing by the golf simulator and you can experience taking that virtual iconic shot on the 18th hole at the world-renowned Royal Portrush Golf Course.
Come and enjoy live music at Bank Square to get into the festival mood and unwind after a day watching golf!

Belfast Golf Trail
You’re invited to explore the city centre and Cathedral Quarter with the Belfast Golf Trail. Solve the clues to find out the names of all 18 holes across the city, and answer the questions to reach the final answer. Victoria Square and Castlecourt
In Victoria Square a Northern Ireland themed mini golf will be in place for all to enjoy (Wednesday 17th July – Sunday 21st July). At the weekend (Saturday 20th July 11.00 - 17:00 and Sunday 21st July 13:00 - 17:00) why not pop into the centre to enjoy local ice cream vendor Al-Gelato along with a pop up local bar and local fayre traders selling handmade Northern Ireland goods.
Castlecourt in the centre of Belfast also has lots for visitors to avail of over The Open period.
Why not take a little bit of Belfast back with you, at the Wrapped Up Souvenir Workshop. On Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July on the upper mall, join in at making your own customised key ring tag with a personalised symbol, or initials – taking away a personalised souvenir from Belfast.
The city centre will also be dressed with lamppost banners with images and logos relating to The Open. Volunteers will also be present through the city centre offering advice to visitors staying in the Belfast on what to do, where to eat and what to see!
Window dressing competition
Belfast City Centre Management are holding a window dressing competition during the week of The Open. If you have decorated your window with a golf theme please email a photo of it toNiall Burke, firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday 17th July. The winner will be announced on Thursday 18th July.
