Downtown and Cool FM’s Cash for Kids will again be hosting the Cash for Kids 6th annual Santa Dash in the city centre on Sunday 2nd December.
You may have seen the Dash pass by your door over the past few years as hundreds of Santa’s dash around Belfast City Centre, to raise money for disadvantaged children across Northern Ireland.
Once again, there will be the original 2km walk led by Santa himself on his sleigh and the new official 5km route. It’s a fun-filled morning for families and groups, last year over 700 participants enjoyed this annual festive event.
This year’s Dash will begin at 10am from Writer’s Square Belfast. Downtown and Cool FM's Cash for Kids are working with the PSNI, a traffic management company and Athletics NI to deliver the event again this year. In order to ensure everyone’s safety some road closures and diversions will be in place for a short time along key areas of the route. They also hope to use rolling closures when possible, so that traffic can still pass along the route. They expect the last participants to be back in Writer’s Square, having completed their route, by 11am at the latest and plan to have all traffic flowing normally by 11.30am.
Please see below the routes, so you can see the streets the Dash will pass.
There are loads of opportunities to get involved in the Dash:
• Register to take part: Registration for the Original Dash is just £7.50 and £25 for the 5K, (which includes a Santa Dash finishers medal) and you get your free Santa suit. There will be a fun warm-up and games with the Cool FM Breakfast team before the Dash begins.

Everything raised from Cash for Kids Santa Dash will support disadvantaged children across Northern Ireland. Our mission is to respond to the needs of disadvantaged children in our communities. Our aim is to overcome illness, disability, poverty and neglect, we aspire to enable all children to live life to the full and to achieve their individual potential.
So far this event has donated over £51,000 to help disadvantaged children across Northern Ireland, children like Shannon;
Shannon is from Portadown. She is registered blind and has nystagmus (irregular eye movements). She was born with Down Syndrome and with a hole in her heart meaning she needed lifesaving surgery at just 8 months old. Her ability to move safely around her environment is also limited due to her visual difficulties.
Shannon is now 11, full of life and loves nothing more than play time with her sister Roisin. She really wanted to join her dad and sister on their cycle adventures, however it isn't possible for her to ride a bike on her own.
Her mum Rosemary applied to Cash for Kids for a specialist trike meaning Shannon can now enjoy fun days out cycling with her family. This not only helped Shannon but also reduces the stress put on her younger sister, Roisin, when they are playing. As she usually has to take care of her sister it gives her an element of freedom to have her own playtime. After receiving the trike Rosemary told us, ‘It has made an absolutely amazing difference, and we are so, so appreciative. We can’t thank you enough.’
