Now in its 11th year the officers are paid for by the private sector to engage in policing around issues that affect the business community. The Healthy High Streets programme provides intensive support for 100 high streets over a three year period through access to business expertise and resource to help high streets realise their potential. Healthy High Streets programme’s Founding Partners Boots UK, the Co-operative Group, Marks & Spencer and Santander are collaborating with BCCM in Belfast’s city centre.

BCCM manages, installs and maintains the city’s festive lights. Belfast City Council are responsible for the lighting within City Hall grounds. The rest of the city is managed by BCCM.
Recently upgraded to LED, the lighting is an important part of the festive trading environment.

BCCM manages many of the features installed as part of DSD’s Streets Ahead Phase I regeneration programme. These include the iconic masts on Donegall Place that can be lit in various coloured themes as well as the ‘pop up’ power feeds for on-street traders.

The card acts as a discount card for 11 – 18 year olds in Northern Ireland and rewards good behaviour. Promoted throughout the Education and Library Board system, the card acts as an incentive for young people and is run in conjunction with other youth engagement projects.

In order to ensure that pavement cafes and other ‘sitting out’ areas make a positive contribution to our city; BCCM has produced a ‘Café Culture’ Memorandum of Understanding which sets out guidelines for the business owner to ensure the ‘sitting out area’ makes a positive contribution to the street scene whilst considering the needs of all other users of the city centre.
